Alternaria 

Alternaria is one of the most common forms of an allergenic mold in the world. It appears dark green or sometimes has tiny brown hairs. The texture looks velvety, and it will typically grow in damp, dark spaces of your home, such as your showers, bathtubs, or underneath your sinks. 

It’s also common to find this mold grow after significant water damage to your home. If this mold is found in your house, it’s important to treat it rather quickly because if not, it will spread rapidly. 

Aspergillus

Another mold that’s commonly found in households is Aspergillus. There are over 185 species of this mold that appear in many different colors. It has long flash-shaped spores that form thick layers of mold. 

Just like Alternaria, the Aspergillus mold is also allergenic. However, it can also become more toxic depending on the species and the environment that it’s affecting. Certain strands of Aspergillus mold can produce aflatoxins, which is a deadly carcinogen. 

Cladosporium

This unique mold has been recognized for thriving in both warm and cold conditions. You can find it inside your home, typically on fabrics, upholsteries, and carpets. You may also find it hiding underneath the floorboard or in cupboards. 

Stachybotrys

The Stachybotrys is also known as the frightening “black mold” It is a toxigenic mold that can cause severe allergic reactions. It’s often referred to as “black mold” because of it’s dark greenish or black color and slimy texture.
