Asbestos used to be widely used in things like fabrics, attic insulation, floor tiles, and pipe wrappings. In the early 1900s, people didn’t know better. They’d mix asbestos (a naturally occurring mineral) with cement and utilize it in all sorts of ways. However, it was discovered that asbestos–when not handled properly– is terrible for people! It can scar and inflame lungs, causing mesothelioma and lung cancer. You do not want to breathe it in!

The Importance of Having an Asbestos Inspection

Why have an asbestos inspection? Well, you can’t identify it by just looking at it. And, if it’s released on a property and people are exposed, it could truly hurt people. Do you want to be liable for their health problems? No! That’s why it’s important to have a professional inspector check for asbestos on a property, especially if it’s being bought or sold. They can examine the property, take test samples and provide an evaluation detailing the location of asbestos and the extent of the damage.

Before a structure is renovated or demolished, an asbestos inspection should be performed by a certified asbestos inspector who knows all about being in compliance with U.S. EPA, State and Federal laws.

Interestingly, asbestos isn’t banned in the U.S. It’s still legal! And it’s still used in things like floor tiles and insulation, though not as much as it used to be. If it’s contained, it’s fine. But if its particles are disturbed and released into the air– watch out!
